Shower Systems & Waterproofing
Tile is not waterproof. Proper waterproofing is what stands between your shower and costly water damage.
Why Tiles Are Not Waterproof
Many homeowners assume that once tile is installed in a shower, the space is waterproof. This is a common misconception. Tile and grout are porous materials that absorb water over time. Without a proper waterproofing system behind the tile, moisture penetrates through the grout lines and tile edges, reaching the substrate and framing behind.
This hidden moisture leads to mould growth, wood rot, structural damage, and eventually a complete shower failure that costs thousands more to repair than it would have cost to waterproof properly in the first place.
At Dyson Contracting, every shower we build starts with a professional-grade waterproofing system. We use industry-leading membrane systems that create a continuous, watertight barrier behind your tile.
Our Waterproofing Process
Flood Testing: Our Quality Guarantee
Flood testing is the only way to confirm a shower pan is truly waterproof before tile goes on. We plug the drain, fill the shower pan with water, and let it sit for a minimum of 24 hours. If the water level drops, we find and fix the issue before proceeding.
This simple test prevents thousands of dollars in future repairs and gives you peace of mind that your shower is built to last. Not every contractor takes this step. We do, every single time.
Curbless Shower Options
Curbless (barrier-free) showers are a popular choice for modern bathrooms and accessibility-focused designs. By eliminating the traditional shower curb, the floor flows seamlessly from the bathroom into the shower.
- •Accessibility for all ages and mobility levels
- •Clean, modern aesthetic
- •Easier to clean and maintain
- •Requires precise slope engineering for proper drainage
